Recognizing this, the Maendeleo Foundation, in partnership with MTN Uganda, recently concluded a transformative training program in Hoima aimed at bringing digital literacy to underserved communities. The program has touched many lives, empowering individuals with the skills needed to thrive in a digital world. Here are some inspiring success stories from the participants.


Aheebwa Reagan: From Novice to Digital Enthusiast

Aheebwa Reagan, a 24-year-old student from Hoima City, had never used a computer before the training. The experience was both exciting and daunting for him. Initially, Reagan struggled with the basics, like typing, but under the guidance of trainers, he began to understand the fundamentals of computing. His perseverance paid off as he quickly developed a sense of accomplishment.

Reagan’s digital skills have grown significantly, enabling him to use spreadsheets for data analysis and emails for communication. He is eager to take on new challenges and make a positive impact in his community with his newly acquired skills.


Akatukunda Ritah: A Plumber’s Digital Transformation

Akatukunda Ritah, a 23-year-old plumber from Rwenkobe Village, had her life transformed through the ICT training provided by the Maendeleo Foundation and MTN Uganda. Her first encounter with a computer was intimidating—she didn’t even know how to turn it on. However, the digital skills program equipped her with essential abilities, such as using Gmail and conducting online research.

Ritah now plans to streamline her work, pursue academic research, and potentially take online classes to further her education. The skills she acquired have not only boosted her confidence but also empowered her to communicate more effectively and enhance her career prospects.


Alibankoha Joseph: Unlocking New Opportunities with Digital Skills

Alibankoha Joseph, a 24-year-old medical clinical officer from Kiryateete East in Hoima City, initially found using a computer confusing and frustrating. With the support of his tutor, he gradually learned the basics and was thrilled when he successfully sent his first email.

Joseph’s journey didn’t stop there. He explored applications like word processors and educational games, realizing that digital skills opened doors to academic and personal growth. He is now equipped to navigate social media responsibly, use online banking and shopping, and protect his privacy and security. Joseph is grateful to the Maendeleo Foundation and MTN Uganda for providing him with these valuable skills.


Kobusinge Susan: A Dream Come True

For Kobusinge Susan, a 28-year-old Credit Officer at Noble Unit Uganda Limited in Hoima, her first encounter with a computer was a dream come true. Although she didn’t know much about computers initially, she was thrilled to experience typing using a keyboard.

With her newfound skills, Susan can now create and edit documents, send emails, and conduct online research with ease. She is grateful to the Maendeleo Foundation and MTN Uganda for introducing her to the world of ICT, which has empowered her to take control of her career and personal growth.


Kobusinge Rehema: A New Chapter in Life

Kobusinge Rehema, a 19-year-old student from Nyakaihura, Bulindi sub-county, had her life changed by her first encounter with computers. Working in a stationary store, she was surrounded by technology but lacked the skills to operate it. Thanks to the ICT training, she learned the fundamentals of using a computer, from turning it on to creating files and connecting to Wi-Fi.

Rehema is now confident that these skills will open doors to new opportunities and empower her to achieve her goals. She is excited to embark on this new chapter in her life, thanks to the Maendeleo Foundation and MTN Uganda.


Kaggwa Wahab: Embracing the Digital World

Kaggwa Wahab, a 28-year-old self-employed man from Lusaka Hoima City, had no prior experience with ICT before enrolling in the training. However, in just one week, he learned vital skills such as typing, internet searching, email creation, and file management.

Wahab appreciates the opportunity to learn ICT skills and believes that with more time and resources, the training program can be even more impactful. He is excited to see the positive effects these skills will have on his life and community.

These stories are a testament to the transformative power of digital literacy. The recently concluded training in Hoima, led by the Maendeleo Foundation in collaboration with MTN Uganda, has not only equipped individuals with essential digital skills but also empowered them to dream bigger and achieve more.
